Owl pellet dissection: investigating the predator-prey relationship
(This one-hour program can be added to the Raptor program for $85 + materials fee)
Owls prey on other animals for food. As they don’t have teeth, they swallow their meal whole. The undigested hair and bones are packed together into a pellet and then regurgitated. In this program, participants dissect sanitized owl pellets to discover bones, skulls, fur and feathers. Using a dissection booklet and a bone ID sheet, group and categorize the bones, identifying the small animals eaten by the owl. Limit one class.
