Birdwatching Gear for the Kids BirdWatch Project

The Environmental Learning Center at Oxbow Meadows is collecting used and new optics and bird study tools to be redistributed, free of charge, to school-age children in the greater Columbus area. These donations will help us get kids excited about birds and ultimately, wildlife conservation and habitat protection.

We'll take used equipment, but please make sure it's in good working condition - gear that's clean - and please, no broken zippers and buckles, or obsolete equipment.   We do not have funds to realign or repair damaged optics.

Here's what we're looking for:

  • Binoculars
  • Digital cameras
  • Spotting scopes
  • Flat bed scanners
  • Bird and nature books & DVDs
  • Bird Call CDs
  • Handheld mobile interactive field guides (http://www.handheldbirds.com)
  • Bird Jam on iPods
  • Field identification guides

We are also in need of the following:

  • clothes washer and dryer (for our bird banding program)
  • bird holding bags
  • Stainless steel kitchen fixtures
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Tile flooring
  • Avaya phone system w/voice mail
  • digital audio recorder
  • digital video equipment
  • DVD/tape player
  • weather station
  • flat screen TV monitors
  • picnic tables
  • window treatments (blinds, shades)
  • garden tools
  • tool shed and potting shed
  • greenhouse
  • bird baths and fountains
  • Mac and PC laptops
  • 35mm transparency scanner

Of course, your donation of time and talent as well as cash donations are always greatly appreciated!
